Microsoft Dynamics NAV
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is a comprehensive ERP solution that helps businesses streamline their processes and improve their performance.
RC Beton needed an easier way to calculate production costs, share information internally, and gain more precise insights into their manufacturing processes. With Dynamics NAV, RC Beton now has a solution that simplifies transport planning, keeps customers informed, and strengthens the bottom line by providing a clearer overview of project finances.
Dynamics NAV gives RC Beton real-time insights into production, helping track resources and ensure projects stay on budget.
Managers can monitor time and costs more effectively, identify issues early, and adjust processes to improve efficiency.
Transparent schedules allow RC Beton to provide customers with clear delivery information, boosting satisfaction and trust.
Greater transparency in RC Beton’s operations now allows for accurate cost calculations, improved information sharing within the project-production department, real-time adjustments during production, and precise knowledge of when a project is ready for delivery. These benefits come from 9altitudes’ Dynamics NAV production solution, implemented at RC Beton’s headquarters in Rødkærsbro with its five factories. CFO John Amby, who led the project, highlights that transparency is crucial for maintaining good business practices and supporting growth ambitions.
“It’s about having precise knowledge of the costs for large batches of paving stones and understanding the financial performance of producing advanced concrete elements,” says Amby.
Previously relying on an older C5 system and extensive Excel usage, RC Beton struggled to gain a full overview of project finances, which sometimes resulted in lower-than-expected profitability. With the new Dynamics NAV solution, the precise bill of materials from the design department is imported into the project budget via a smart import function. This includes resources and work centers, providing complete visibility over production processes, raw materials, semi-finished goods, and subcontracted tasks.
This ensures full production cost calculation and allows timely intervention when assumptions change.
“We wanted an open financial overview so we can see what we actually earn from a project,” explains John Amby. “The system allows project managers and stakeholders to monitor production and ensure allocated time is sufficient, giving us the opportunity to adjust and correct as needed.”
Before implementing the new system, production was often managed reactively, making it difficult for the sales team to provide accurate timelines to customers. Now, all information is centralized, enabling the sales department to communicate clearly when a product will be ready.
“Previously, we were managing a bit blindly. Now everything is in one place, and our sales team can give customers precise updates,” says Amby.
Logistics have also been significantly improved. Previously, route planning was done on paper, with order sheets spread across tables. With Dynamics NAV, planning is digital, and route files are sent directly to external carriers. In the future, carriers will participate in planning, with transport operations managed via nShift integrated with NAV.
Warehouse management is still partially paper- and Excel-based, but the next phase will implement barcode and kanban systems from the Bredana Solutions suite.
“The plan is to barcode everything and equip trucks to print delivery notes. Aggregates like sand, gravel, and cement will be managed with kanban inventory. The barcode system ensures inventory is always updated in real time,” says Amby.
Both barcode and kanban features are standard in 9altitudes’ Dynamics NAV production solution. The system also includes Business Intelligence tools, allowing detailed reporting and insights into various areas of Dynamics NAV data.
“This gives us a much deeper understanding of our financials,” Amby explains.
The Dynamics NAV solution has streamlined workflows, increased transparency, and made it possible to measure actual profitability per order.
“We will improve our bottom line simply because we now have control over all these aspects,” says Amby.
RC Beton selected the industry-specific Dynamics NAV solution over three other options.
“We wanted to stay as close to standard functionality as possible, and in the specific areas we needed, the 9altitudes solution was the best fit,” explains Amby.
The project was completed on schedule, implemented a month before RC Beton’s peak season, and the budget was maintained with agreed adjustments along the way. The project now continues into phase two.
Founded in 1938, RC Beton produces paving stones, blocks, sewer pipes, and specialized projects developed by the in-house project department. The company is headquartered in Rødkærsbro and operates four factories across Denmark.
