Microsoft Dynamics NAV
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is a comprehensive ERP solution that helps businesses streamline their processes and improve their performance.
For Tanaco, the main challenge was having a tool to manage the company effectively. Now, all employees can dive into the numbers with Dynamics NAV. This means all data is accessible to every employee, who can also more easily find exactly the information they need.
With Dynamics NAV and JetReports, Tanaco can easily generate detailed reports and access updated numbers in minutes instead of hours, giving leadership and employees full trust in their data.
The new solution provides a solid foundation for Tanaco’s ambitious growth strategy, with tools that ensure transparency, scalability, and efficiency across operations.
A barcode solution and nShift integration have replaced manual workflows, enabling real-time inventory tracking and reducing time spent on transport planning and handling of dangerous goods.
“We lacked insight into our own company as a foundation for growth. We have now gained that insight with our new Microsoft Dynamics NAV system, enabling us to meet our ambitious growth targets,” says CEO Kim L. Hansen from Tanaco A/S in Esbjerg, part of the global Pelsis Group.
With the new system, Tanaco has reached its primary goal: gaining a solution that serves as a daily management tool, increases transparency across the company, and provides the group with the reporting it needs.
When Kim L. Hansen joined Tanaco as CEO, there was no system to properly guide decisions. The existing ERP solution was hardly being used, and he couldn’t access reliable data for decision-making. He initiated the groundwork for a new system and asked 9altitudes to conduct a needs analysis. After a bidding round, 9altitudes (formerly Bredana Solutions) was chosen as the provider.
“9altitudes had the approach we needed. Their consultants understand our business and can advise us on how to structure our processes,” says Hansen.
ERP Manager Lene Nielsen, who acted as project manager during implementation, adds:
“They’ve been a huge help in making sure the system works based on what we need.”
The ability to dive deep into numbers and create reports for internal use and group reporting is enabled by JetReports, a reporting and analytics tool for Dynamics NAV.
“JetReports is an indispensable and fantastic solution,” says Nielsen. “It allows me to design reports myself and analyze numbers and trends across different dimensions.”
CEO Hansen adds enthusiastically:
“Before, I didn’t have access to updated figures and analyses when I needed them. Now, I can get reports on demand.”
“If Kim asks how much of a specific product we sold to a certain customer in a given time period and on which invoice numbers, I can give him the answer in two minutes. Before, it could take several hours,” says Nielsen.
“It has also meant that we fully trust the data,” Hansen emphasizes.
Tanaco operates five warehouses in Denmark, receiving products from both standard suppliers and subcontractors that refine selected goods. Previously, there were no product numbers — and while the warehouse manager knew where items were located, that wasn’t sufficient for a company in a group that expects accurate inventory visibility at the push of a button.
As part of the Dynamics NAV implementation, Tanaco introduced a barcode solution with handheld scanners.
“This is a big change for us, and we’re in a learning process to figure out how to use the system optimally,” says Hansen.
Products are now scanned at receipt, storage, and picking. Real-time registration ensures constant control over inventory.
Tanaco has also implemented 9altitudes’ integration between Dynamics NAV and the nShift shipping solution.
“We expect significant time savings here, as the system has automated many manual processes. We also expect improvements in handling dangerous goods,” says Nielsen.
Reflecting on life before the new system, Hansen and Nielsen can’t help but smile at some of their previous workflows.
“We had an employee who hadn’t taken Christmas vacation in 10 years because she had to manually enter prices into an Excel sheet between Christmas and New Year’s, so that updated prices were ready for the new year,” says Hansen.
“Now she can finally take time off because we’ve automated this process in Dynamics NAV,” he adds.
Tanaco markets a range of pest and weed control products. Its customers include both professional pest control companies and private consumers, who can purchase products through various retail chains.
In 2016, Tanaco was acquired by the Pelsis Group, and its 15 employees in Esbjerg are now part of the global organization.
