Microsoft Dynamics NAV
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is a comprehensive ERP solution that helps businesses streamline their processes and improve their performance.
One of PLUS’s main challenges was keeping track of all the processes involved in delivering goods. Today, all data is automatically sent to the freight forwarder, making it easier to plan and execute deliveries—and import the relevant details directly into Microsoft Dynamics NAV. This streamlines order picking and packing for timber merchants, even for complex orders with many components—benefiting both employees and customers.
Despite a complex logistics setup, PLUS was able to pick, pack, ship, and invoice from day one. The system was up and running without delays, thanks to strong planning and standard Dynamics NAV functionality.
Automation and barcode scanning have cut down manual tasks across the board. Orders flow directly to logistics, and warehouse staff can work faster with fewer errors.
Freight costs are now automatically allocated to each item, giving PLUS clear insight into actual product costs and inventory value. That means better pricing, budgeting, and profitability.
Whether a customer orders a popular PLUS garden fence, raised bed, or garden furniture from a timber merchant, DIY store, or webshop, a highly efficient logistics system ensures that the right product is delivered to the right place at the right time.
At the heart of this setup is Microsoft Dynamics NAV, supported by intelligent solutions implemented by 9altitudes. Orders arrive via EDI, webshops, and email, and are automatically grouped into deliveries for different regions in Denmark, Scandinavia, and across Europe.
PLUS delivers to retailers weekly. Once the delivery window closes, all relevant order data—shipping addresses, volume, number of parcels—is sent to the freight forwarder. They handle the detailed transport planning and upload the information back into Dynamics NAV. Pick lists are then generated to ensure optimal loading, with products packed and loaded in reverse delivery order.
“Often, a single product consists of multiple components—like planks, posts, brackets, and hinges,” explains Søren Kaspersen.
New barcode and handheld scanner systems, directly integrated with Dynamics NAV, make the process easier and include built-in safeguards so warehouse staff don’t waste time searching for out-of-stock items.
“Dynamics NAV tells us whether an item is available for delivery at the requested time. If not, it won’t appear on the pick list,” Søren adds.
The warehouse team has welcomed the new scanners, which are smaller and more user-friendly: "Even with our complex setup, we’ve been able to process orders without interruption from day one.”
Before implementing Dynamics NAV, PLUS used a heavily customized XAL system. Transitioning to a new platform using more standardized functionality has been a significant but worthwhile change.
One of the key improvements is more accurate cost tracking. When PLUS receives goods from a supplier and later a freight invoice, the shipping cost is automatically allocated across the individual items. This ensures the inventory valuation reflects true landed costs.
“We now have a far more accurate understanding of product costs and total inventory value,” says Søren.
Like many companies, PLUS is experiencing a steady increase in online sales.
“Having track and trace capabilities is a big win. Customers receive an SMS with their delivery time,” explains Søren.
Expedition Manager Marianne Lund adds: “It’s also helpful when dealers or retailers call us—we can always give them a precise delivery update.”
PLUS no longer manufactures products in-house. Instead, most production is outsourced to suppliers in Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and China. This means the company processes around 4,000 supplier invoices annually.
The digital approval workflow in Dynamics NAV saves significant administrative time: “All original documents are stored digitally, so retrieving them is fast and easy,” says Søren.
The seamless integration with Microsoft Office tools is another major advantage.
